Nourishment + Gratitude

There is such a natural and beautiful connection between nourishment and gratitude, and it’s one that shines especially brightly at this time of year. I like to think of Thanksgiving as a celebration of generosity, giving thanks to the earth that provides us with the perfect nourishment for our bodies, to the friends and family who feed our hearts with their loving kindness, and to all those who have gone before us, who have labored untiringly to create this nurturing world.

Every day, working in the apothecary or in my treatment room, I’m wonderstruck by the elegance and power of plant medicines. They meet our needs so precisely, bringing our skin into harmony and contributing so much abundance to our lives. That precision, meeting every need with its perfect remedy, and the sense of loving bounty I find in the plant world, are hugely inspiring.

But at this time of year, I also find happiness in appreciating generosity in all its many forms. I’m inspired by the ways in which we all support and nurture one another, through loving gestures great and small—and including the lovely ways in which we treat ourselves with special care.

After all, when we nourish all the beings around us, we come to realize our own most powerfully fulfilled—and glowingly beautiful—selves.
