June’s Simple Delights
June offers so much to look forward to. School’s out! And with the celebration of Father’s Day, we can take the opportunity to honor all the wonderful men in our lives, including anyone who nurtures us with that special loving and supportive energy, whether a brother, uncle, husband, granddad or best friend. What would we do without them? I am grateful for this holiday where we can take the time to reflect on their nourishing strength, humor, resilience and understanding, as well as what they inspire in us.
June also brings a relaxed simplicity to life, when for most families, the strands of our tightly-bound schedule loosen a little, and it’s time to change gears. We can really sink in and spend time together doing the special summer things that knit family and friends close — whether that means the adventure of a big family vacation or settling into a new daily rhythm that leaves more space for spending time with those whom we love. Maybe you’ll plan a morning bike ride together or try a full-moon walk once a month, or you’ll simply spend one of those dreamy days at the beach, a glorious afternoon when it feels like summer will never end.
In my family, anything that gets us out into nature together is precious, and for me there is almost no better way to while away the sultry days than by soaking up each other’s company and the cooling breezes. Life moves so fast, doesn’t it? I hope that this summer you’ll join me in clearing a sweet place in your busy schedule, making time to be together with the people who help us breathe easy and having fun while the sun shines!
