Q: What’s the best way to treat sensitive skin?
TAMMY WRITES: Over many years I’ve learned that treating sensitive skin is all about self-nurturing care. The body has an incredible capacity to self-heal, especially the skin, and when we are gentle in supporting and allowing those processes to occur, it leads to such incredible outcomes. Even in treating my own skin sensitivities I am surprised to find that the more gentle my approach, the more quick and lasting the healing tends to be. It amazes me every time. It isn’t just about following a certain treatment protocol—though that certainly can help!—it’s also a state of mind.
Respecting the skin’s function as an eliminatory organ, and honoring the beauty of the way the skin works by adopting a very delicate approach, makes all the difference. I’m happy to share some of my favorite tips below, all of which support the natural process.
THE SENSITIVE SKIN PROTOCOL
My treatment protocol for sensitive skin centers on Plant Milk, a soft, milky botanical emulsion which helps soothe and nurture skin with precious traditional plant remedies such as White Lily and Mountain Arnica.
Cleanse: Apply Cleansing Milk with a gentle circular motion to face and neck, morning and evening, removing with a warm, moist cloth to leave the complexion clean and softly radiant.
Balance: Reawaken the complexion with a light spritz of Bulgarian Rose Water, a beautiful floral tonic with rejuvenating Rose.
Support: Tap a small amount of Awakening Eye Gel onto the eye area with the fingertips. Then, with a gentle pumping underneath the eyes, work from the inner corner towards the outer, expressing any excess fluid down and away, towards the earlobe.
Soothe: Gently warm 1-2 droppers full of Plant Milk between the fingertips, pressing it into the skin like a serum or gently massaging into the skin, activating micro-circulation, which helps increase oxygenation and vitality.
Replenish: Plant Milk offers a light and lasting layer of protection, but a modest application of Intensive Repair Balm creates an additional environmental barrier, and helps lock in hydration, which can support sensitive skin.
