Nourish Yourself

It is in our very nature to come together during difficult times, to support one another, and to reach to those in need, in all the many ways that grace arises. The recent storms here in Florida have brought difficulty, but have also brought us closer as a community just at the time in the earth’s cycle when we’ve pulled together by tradition for thousands of years—the harvest at summer’s end, the culmination of that season’s beauty, and the quick and yet slow shift into autumn, which always comes as a delicious surprise.

Every year, there’s a moment when you can almost feel the earth change course, beginning to draw its energy inward again. It’s then, after all of summer’s exuberant, expansive ripening, we receive one of nature’s loveliest gifts, a green and growing generosity that blooms into a bounty. I love to pause just then, taking the opportunity to assimilate summer’s sweetness with my friends and family. For me, the harvest also serves as the perfect reminder—it’s a great time to nourish ourselves in every which way.

The transition can be both physical and emotional, and I know that will be especially true this year. During this seasonal shift, I find myself encouraging clients to work towards restoring balance on every level, fortifying the skin, but also the body, mind and spirit. Being in community, of course, works wonders to bring about this transformation, as does the simple gesture of indulging in quiet. The friends we seek out, the food we prepare for our families and for ourselves, and the help we can offer to others, moves us into the new season feeling regenerated, clear and brightly abundant.

Please join me this month in celebrating the harvest—and nourishing you.

A Time of Alignment

Whenever I synchronize my intentions and energies with the forces of nature all around us—whether by getting in tune with each new season as it arrives, or making time to just be in the garden, or by keeping an eye on the stars—I notice what strength it brings my heart and what a boost it lends to my daily rhythm. So for me, this month is all about coming into alignment, underlining the natural connections that empower us, and those that lead us towards joy.

If you have an astrological bend, you may have noted reports that the end of 2016 also marked an end of a bigger cycle, introducing a time when every planet in our solar system is moving forward, a more harmonious alignment than at any other point in their collective orbit patterns. The star-watchers say that between January 7 and February 6th, we have a chance not only to shed what is no longer useful to us, and to inspire change at the most fundamental levels, but also to come together in a fresh way by tapping into the energetic momentum of this moment. It’s the kind of cosmic shift that has the potential to uplift and expand so many possibilities, for abundance and for brightening the collective consciousness. It’s a very sweet synchronicity.

Of course, nature’s own medicinal gifts offer the perfect bridge into these bright times. One great way to connect with the specific vibration of the day is through Helichrysum, which not only has miraculous effects on the skin, stimulating new cell growth and strengthening connective tissue, but which can move stagnant chi energy. Like no other remedy, Helichrysum calls in alignment. It’s an essence that can gently, lovingly nudge us and guide us forward, and its energetic frequency resonates with the heart and with that of the earth, bringing the two closer together. You can experience the Pure Living Energy of Helichrysum through my Intensive Repair Balm, or by introducing the essential oil into your daily routine.

It’s a wonderful new year—Let’s come into alignment as we come together.

I’m feeling so very fortunate to continue this journey with you.

Aging Gracefully

I love how becoming conscious of aging skin has introduced so many to the vast benefits of holistic care. And yet, at the same time, I think it’s important to encourage a shift in our perception of aging, and what it means to age gracefully. Since I’m asked about this question of aging so often, I’m sharing a few of my thoughts, below, on how to age gracefully, with the hopes that it furthers our conversation and broadens our definition of what beauty means.

See aging as a gift. Aging is a refinement, a deeper way of knowing yourself, and when we honor the wisdom that comes through experience, it reveals a confidence that we all recognize as elegant and graceful. We can be grateful for that instead of fighting against nature’s cycle.

Embrace you. Instead of chasing youth, or trying to alter the outside, when we simply are authentically ourselves, strength comes from inside. When we buy into ideas of so-called perfection, we can’t feel fulfilled. And honestly, deep down we all know that this lie doesn’t work. When we love ourselves 100%, it radiates from within us and becomes a gift we give to others.
Feel at home. There’s a simple meditation where we can each remember a time of feeling utterly “at home.” You don’t have to overthink it, but sitting quietly with eyes closed for a couple moments you can let yourself soak up that feeling, whether you connect with the feeling of sitting in your grandmother’s kitchen or on the park beach. Bathing your cells in that delicious sense of “home,” savoring the joy, is just like aging gracefully. It’s the feeling of coming home.

Find a mentor. Pick out a mentor—or several! An older women who exudes that unmistakable confidence, and who can lead the way as we follow. It doesn’t need to be someone we know well, or even at all. But connecting with this vision of aging beautifully, with dignity and strength, can become a conscious touchstone.

Go deep. Aging happens on the surface, but when we recognize that a true connection with others happens on the energy level, the signs of aging on the face and body become irrelevant. And when we are comfortable with who we are, we have the capacity to share our gifts more fully with others.

Meet beauty. Looking into the eyes of an elderly person, while holding hands and connecting by heart, is a profoundly beautiful experience. Some of my dearest clients are women who are in their late 80’s, and each time I am with them, I am reminded of their exquisite beauty and grace. To me, they are ageless.

Rest Ye Merry

Okay—let’s catch our breath for a second. I hope that many of us are enjoying a short—but sweet!—lull between holidays, which provides not only such a great opportunity to take care of day-to-day concerns that might have slipped to the bottom of the list, but can also open a warmhearted window of time during which we can give skin a much needed rest. Nurturing ourselves in this way can feel so right.

And every hour counts. Before ringing in the New Year, you might take advantage of the calm by spending as much time makeup-free as possible, giving skin a break from the irritating preservatives and allergens that most makeup contains. It’s a great mini-detox, and one that will allow you to start the New Year right with a fresh foundation.

Similarly, if you’ve been on your feet—and in heels—more often than not these past weeks, this week might offer a great chance to recuperate. There are thousands of reflex points in the feet, and taking a moment to bring peace to those places, gently massaging the soles with relaxed intent, can release energy blockages that build up over time. You don’t have to be a master of reflexology—like the incredible Helya at our Spa—you can apply soft pressure where it feels good.

Or you can simply allow yourself to drift for a moment. Nothing feels better than putting your feet up—and that simple gesture alone increases circulation and lends the complexion an easy glow, while soothing the nerves and giving you an energetic boost for the New Year to come.

Please enjoy these days. We are sending you all our best wishes for an incredible year to come!
